one city, thousands of stories

The telephone call came out of the blue. My good friend Alice Ewing wanted to know if I’d be interested in taking the reins of her Humans of Galveston blog on Facebook, no strings attached.

I was already a big fan of the page, which shines a spotlight on the cool, quirky and laid-back residents and visitors to the island. It works like this: Walk up to a stranger, ask if I can ask a few questions and take some pictures. More often than not, people gladly agree to be interviewed.

Since taking over Humans of Galveston in 2016, I’ve had the privilege of spotlighting scores of people from all backgrounds and walks of life, who open up and share their lives with a complete stranger.

The “Humans of” concept has spread worldwide, inspired by the success of Humans of New York, which garners millions of hits with its poignant portraits of people from around the globe. Now, Humans of Galveston is poised to take the next step of launching a website to compliment its presence on Facebook. I hope that you will continue to follow and support our heartfelt work.
