Geronimo: Every day is Island Time

(From the Archives)

Humans of Galveston: Where are you from, Geronimo?

Geronimo: I’m from New York but I’ve been a lot of places. I’ve been to Jacksonville, Treasure Island, St. Petersburg, Palm Beach and Clearwater. I’ve been to Georgia, North Carolina and now in Galveston. I’ve been here three months now.

Humans of Galveston: What do you like about the island?

Geronimo: I’m enjoying the weather and the beaches. Life goes on, you know. You wake up, the Lord bless you and you keep going. You take it from there. You wake up and all you gotta say is, ‘God Bless America.’

Humans of Galveston: What’s your typical day like in Galveston?

Geronimo: I get up about 6:30 (a.m.) and crack a beer. Then I get motivated and I walk my dogs and I talk to my friend on the computer. I’ve got banana trees and potato plants and I love gardening.

Humans of Galveston: Who has been the greatest influence on your life?

Geronimo: My mother. She taught me not to disrespect females. My dad told me don’t fight over females because there are plenty of fish in the sea and to learn to cook so you won’t starve. I went to Puerto Rico 30 years ago to see my dad. He was very sick and I buried my dad. And now I’ve got no family.
