Island Artist: ‘Make Your Life Fun!”
I meet a lot of colorful humans in Galveston, folks like Island artist Debbie Farley Dunn, a
Cherokee Indian who was selling jewelry at The Crow’s Nest on The Strand. She shared her thoughts with Humans of Galveston.
Humans of Galveston: Are you from Galveston?
Debbie: I’ve been here since 1968. I lived in a tent for two years on the beach.
Humans of Galveston: People love Galveston, they love BOIs (Born on the Island residents)
Debbie: I am, sorta kinda, yeah. You gotta be crazy to live here. (laughs)
Humans of Galveston: What makes you tick?
Debbie: The water. I always come back to the water. I’ve lived by rivers, ponds, creeks, and I always come back here every time. It’s that salt water. It gets in your blood.
Humans of Galveston: What do you think about The Strand?
Debbie: I love The Strand. It’s historic, it’s haunted, it’s fun and it’s free. You meet all kinds of cool people.
Humans of Galveston: What do you want the world to know?
Debbie: Fish a lot, go barefoot and have fun. Make your life fun!
